Midjourney aspect ratio

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Have you ever noticed that some images or photos look different than others? One of the reasons for this is aspect ratios.

When we talk about aspect ratios, we’re referring to the relationship between the width and height of an image or video. It’s important because different aspect ratios can affect how the image is displayed on different devices, such as computer screens or TV screens or even prints.

The “midjourney aspect ratio” is a prompt parameter command, it goes as follows: –ar 9:16

By using the aspect ratio parameter (–aspect or –ar), you can adjust the dimensions of your images when creating them with Midjourney. Simply specify the desired value after the parameter,

Whether you’re a seasoned content creator or just starting, understanding aspect ratios is essential to creating visually appealing content. Let’s get started!

Midjourney Landscape aspect ratio

–ar 16:9

16:9 is generally considered a good aspect ratio for landscapes, particularly for panoramic views. This aspect ratio is wide enough to capture the expansive view of a landscape.

–ar 233:114

Inside midjourney a image with a 233:114 aspect ratio can be used as a landscape image, particularly for wider and panoramic views. It could also be used for a banner or wide header design.

–ar 7:3

The 7:3 aspect ratio, also known as the 21:9 aspect ratio, is particularly well-suited for displaying panoramic or wide-angle images. This aspect ratio provides a wider field of view and allows for as more details to be included in the image, which can be particularly useful for landscape and architectural photography.

Midjourney Portrait aspect ratio

The prevalent aspect ratio in painting has traditionally been 3:4.

In practical terms, this implies that for every 3 inches in one direction (horizontal or vertical), there would be 4 inches in the other direction. For instance, a painting measuring 30″ by 40″ exemplifies this aspect ratio. If you were to decrease the size while preserving the same 3:4 aspect ratio, you could have an 18″ by 24″, a 12″ by 16″, or a 9″ by 12″ painting, for example.

Midjourney Print aspect ratio

3:2 are your standard photo paper size.

The most common aspect ratio for portraits is typically 3:2 or 4:3, which are similar to the aspect ratios of most digital cameras. However, other aspect ratios such as 1:1 (square) or 5:4 can also be used for printing photo portraits depending on the desired aesthetic and framing. Ultimately, the choice of aspect ratio will depend on the photographer’s creative vision and the intended use of the final image. You could print any aspect ratio you would want if you take your images to a printing service shop, but the following aspect ratios 5:4 – 4:3 and 3:2 are commonly used for printing photographs at home with a common home printer.

The reason these aspect ratios are well-suited for printing is that they closely match the dimensions of common print sizes, such as 4×5 or 8×10 inches.
